Cali hosted the most important event in the software and technology industry
Cali was the chosen scenario for Summit Softic 2018 “Strategy of ICT Sector for Competitiveness”, the most important business conference in Colombia’s software and technology industry, carried out on November 28th last, at the Centro de Eventos Valle del Pacifico –Valle del Pacifico Convention Centre-, and from that space, Invest Pacific shared the important breakthroughs and developments in terms of technology and innovation the city/region has had, that make it a focus of attraction to direct foreign investment.
During the panel called “Software is the key”, Alejandro Ossa –Invest Pacific Executive Director- stressed out: “As investment promotion agency for the city / region, working by the hand with the public and private sector, as well as with the academia has been key to promote software and service sectors development. As long as we are in tune and updated on the market’s breakthroughs and improvements in terms of technology and innovation we’ll be able to keep on leveraging and connecting new investment opportunities with world-class players”.
In 2018, Valle del Cauca welcomed 20 foreign and domestic companies, 10 of which chose to settle or re-invest in Cali. These latter from the service sector (BPO, KPO, trading, real state and hospitality, and transportation), from countries such as USA, Spain, United Kingdom, Israel and Nicaragua, and Chile, with investment projects above USD$27 Million, and forecasting the creation of more than 1.500 jobs.
On his side, Oscar Eduardo Escobar – Director of the IT and Communications Administrative Office of Cali City Hall- stated: “This business conference intends to accomplish sales in the national software industry for more than USD$70 Million, with several international buyers; therefore, this is certainly one more evidence that the city moves on with technology, that it is a creative city with a very promising potential in the software industry nationwide!”
Softic was organized by Fedesoft, Procolombia and MINTIC* –The National Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (*by its acronym in Spanish), with the support of Cali’s Chamber of Commerce and City Hall, and the Governor’s office of Valle del Cauca. The event was attended by more than 140 Colombian companies from the ITC sector, offering their products and services to more than 70 companies and traders from different countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Peru.
