The cosmetic sector, and personal and home care include sub-sectors such as Cosmetics (make up, and personal hygiene), Cleaning (detergents, soaps, etc.) and Absorbents (diapers, and personal hygiene products).

According to Euromonitor, this sector in Colombia will experience a total growth of more than 19% for the 2015- 2020 period, having leverage from premium products with an annual growth rate of 4,5%. Local consumers are also being attracted by companies that offer social responsibility programs.

Valle del Cauca is one of the national leaders in manufacture and export of several products in the sector, and given its logistic advantages, global leaders have settled in this region to serve the inner market and that of Latin America. 

Such is the case of Unilever Group, Colgate Palmolive Co., Johnson & Johnson Inc., Reckitt Benckiser, etc. Likewise, multinational providers for these companies such as Aptar, Amcor and Essel Group, have found the economies of scale are necessary to serve their Latin American customers from this region.

The region offers one of the most cost-efficient multimodal platforms in Latin America. The Port of Buenaventura is responsible for more than 40% of Colombia’s international trading; an international airport, freeways and free trade zones providean ideal infrastructure for the establishment of intense International business operations, with the possibility to export products and import supplies. Furthermore, Valle del Cauca has highly qualified human resources with specific knowledge and competitive costs.
These advantages, added to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world and a growing demand from the settled companies, allow great opportunities for cosmetics manufacture, specialized packing and other products of the value chain. The region’s growing innovation in chemistry and biotechnology also offers special conditions for the development of specialized R&D centers and certification labs.
