Bilingual job fair
The Bilingual Job Fair started in 2019 with the purpose of providing spaces that allow those proficient in English access to information on the different employment opportunities available in the region. It emerged as a pioneering regional initiative in the country aimed at promoting the connection between foreign and local companies and the human resources of Cali and Valle del Cauca. In its four editions, it has had the participation of 5,324 people and more than 40 companies from different sectors, including BPO contact centers, technology operations, audiovisual development, commerce and tourism, among others. A total of 2,424 English proficient citizens signed up to participate in the 4th version of the Cali Bilingual Job Fair in its virtual edition, which took place on August 5th. A total of 13 companies, including local and foreign companies, announced their more than 2,500 job opportunities for all bilingual Cali residents.
This annual fair was organized by the Investment Promotion Agency for Cali and Valle del Cauca – Invest Pacific-, Compensation Fund Comfandi, the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce -South West Section- Colombian-American Cultural Center AmCham, the Public Employment Service and the Secretary of Economic Development of the Mayor’s Office of Cali.
During the Fair, attendees were able to learn about companies related with technology operations, software development, outsourcing services, as well as those related with the audiovisual, educational and commercial sectors. Participating companies were: Alorica, TaskUs, Sitel, Accedo, Teleperformance, Encora, Globant, Netmidas, Prodigious, Zonamerica, the Centro Cultural Colombo Americano, Fenalco and Mambo Studio.
The Fair was held in two languages: English and Spanish. Throughout the event, tools for job growth were shared, such as the importance of bilingualism in the region, resume preparation in English, recommendations for a job interview and how the selection process works.
Positions offered include corporate positions for project managers; bilingual teachers; customer service support representatives; marketing; team leaders; trainers; personal assistants; software professionals: frontend, backend, mobile; software product designers and video game developers; among many others.
In this version, nearly 3,000 vacancies were offered by foreign contact centers or BPO companies from France, the United States and Panama, which will be providing information and recommendations on how to apply for their vacancies. Participating companies were Hubtek, Alorica, Sitel, Dash BPO and Teleperformance.
Organized by the Colombo American Cultural Center, Invest Pacific, the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce -Southwest chapter- AmCham and the Secretary of Economic Development of the Mayor’s Office of Cali, with support from the Cauca Valley Government and the Mayor’s offices of Palmira, Yumbo and Jamundí.
As a preamble to the Fair, webinar ‘Getting a job in English: Stand out from the crowd’ was held on the Facebook accounts of the event organizers. Tools for job growth were shared, such as the importance of bilingualism in the region, the preparation of a resume in English and recommendations for approaching a job interview.
More than 20 companies and organizations, both national and international, gathered to connect citizens who are proficient in English with job opportunities in the region at the second Bilingual Job Fair in Cali, which took place in the main auditorium of the Cultural Center of Cali.
The purpose of this event is for people who speak English as a second language (minimum level B1 recommended) to gain information on different vacancies in the region for assistance, operational and managerial positions, among others. Participants included regional and multinational companies from different sectors, which have job options or are about to start the selection processes for bilingual personnel.
The Fair was organized by the Centro Cultural Colombo Americano, Invest Pacific, the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce – South West (AmCham) and the Secretary of Economic Development of the Mayor’s Office of Cali. It is a joint effort that seeks to enhance the bilingual skills of the working population.
The Bilingual Job Fair was held with to connect people who speak English as a second language with companies that need to retain talent with this skill, as a result of an alliance between the Colombo American Cultural Center, the American-Colombian Chamber of Commerce South West Section – AmCham, Invest Pacific and the Secretary of Economic Development of the Mayor’s Office of Cali.
During the Fair, which was held at the Earle Sherman Auditorium of the Colombian American Cultural Center, candidates for assistance, operational and managerial positions, among others, were promoted. Additionally, lectures were given on key topics when looking for a job, such as tips on how to prepare a good resume in English and how to do a job interview, among others.
Participating companies included Zonamerica, SmartDo, Goodyear de Colombia, Hired, Zonamerica, Sitel, The Seven Seas Group, Nice People Consulting, Pacific Medical, Spiwak, Furukawa and the American Embassy. The Secretary of Economic Development of Cali announced the Municipal Employment System – SIME.
