APEAM visit generates investment expectations for the region
Valle del Cauca is an ideal zone for avocado production, as confirmed by APEAM delegates (Mexican association of avocado producers, exporters and packagers) that visited the region during the first week of May with the support of Procolombia and Invest Pacific.
The delegation’s tour in Buenaventura began in TCBuen (Buenaventura’s container terminal) which is responsible of moving 53% of Colombia’s foreign trade containers, it is also the safest water terminal in the country that has an infrastructure with a refrigeration chain adapted for fruit exports.
Port infrastructure, added to the dynamics of avocado production allowed the group of 22 producers and 4 packagers to find opportunities to expand business in the region. “This visit was a rewarding experience, where we’ve met very interesting zones and seen the possibilities to invest”. Said Rodrigo Olivera, APEAM’s Operations Manager, that also mentioned the warmth of the people and their willingness to make the country grow.
With this experience members of APEAM got a complete view of the landscape to begin operations in the country, as also logistics efforts required in case production starts in Colombia. “It was very interesting for us to see the cultivation zone, orchards and the production projections, its yield and having direct contact with the producers and packaging companies”. Said Armando López, APEAM’s director.
The director also mentioned that Colombia is a complementary partner to supply this promising fruit to the world and many benefits for the development of communities, it also provides economic development in times of peace.
With the region’s potential in terms of human talent its geostrategic location close the Colombian Pacific it is expected to attract new opportunities for the agricultural sector that soon will be materialized in Valle del Cauca, a department that apart from being a leader in sugar and coffee exports, also seeks to lead avocado exports.
